Waterfalls
Blue Falls & Catarata del Toro
A truly magical stretch of cloud forest. Blue Falls are famous for unreal turquoise water, coloured by volcanic minerals: crystal-clear pools with swimming allowed, jungle trails, and viewpoints. Nearby, Catarata del Toro plunges into an ancient volcanic crater: spectacular viewpoints, lush forest, a more dramatic visit (no swimming). Both are part of the same private reserve and combine easily in one day.
Important: all visits start at Catarata del Toro, where you buy tickets, for one site or a combo.
What to expect
- Difficulty: easy to moderate
- Blue Falls: short hikes between waterfalls
- Catarata del Toro: stairs and viewpoints (optional descent)
- Opening hours: Monday–Saturday, 7:00 AM–5:00 PM. Closed Sundays
- Combo ticket recommended. Plan around 3–5 hours for both
- Bring swimwear, hiking shoes, and a light jacket
- Best in the morning: fewer people, clearer water
- 1.4 km, about a 20-minute walk or a short drive from Villa Oropéndola

Finca San Rafael

The cabin
Check-in and access notes come after you book. Evenings are cool. A torch helps between the terrace, fire pit, and cabin after dark.
Never leave a fire unattended. The hot tub is on the terrace, so keep it clean for the next guest.

Even with these highlights, Bajos del Toro is a waterfall valley with more cascades, rivers, and jungle days than we can list. Discover it during your stay at Villa Oropéndola.
